JD Rods is owned and operated by myself (Jeff Steenbergen). I build every rod from start to finish with a high level of attention to the small details that set JD Rods apart from all others.
While there are good rods available off the shelf at your local stores, they are mass produced. This increases the chances for flaws or errors.
JD Rods starts with quality blanks obtained from some of the worlds best blank designers. I strive to combine functionality and durability.
All rod blanks are individually inspected and flex tested to insure they are the proper action and that they are being built on the "spine. Building a rod on the spine is important to optimize casting and fish fighting capabilities and to help prolong the life of the rod. It is very important to understand that a rod blank may have a primary and a secondary spine, and it is crucial that the rod is built on the primary.
The grip and reel seat portion of the rod is important to the balance of the rod. At JD Rods I work with the angler to create the optimum balance available on each build. The grips are also modified to fit each angler personally.
Guide type, quantity, and placement play a big role in the performance of your rod. Guide placement is closely scrutinized to gain the most sensitivity possible.
Last but not least, most all of the anglers aesthetic needs can be met. After all if you own a bass fishing rod custom built just for you chances are you will want to show it off!
